Saving Joyer : A Street Encounter That Changed Everything !!
Today, while in the city to share the mission of the 7 Blessings Project Foundation, Dr. Chico experienced a powerful reminder of why our work matters.
On Hospital Avenue, he met a woman named Zizina, who was in tears and holding her young son, Joyer, who was gravely ill. Desperate, she asked if he could help. Dr. Chico quickly spoke with the attending doctor and learned that Joyer needed 450 mg of blood immediately. The cost for the transfusion was 65,000 Congolese Francs — about $28 USD.
Without hesitation, Dr. Chico offered to donate his own blood to help save the boy’s life. Joyer’s condition was critical — his iron levels were dangerously low, and he was experiencing convulsions.
As Dr. Chico reached out to us to see if the foundation could provide additional support, he learned more about the family’s struggles. Zizina has a husband and three children. They are extremely poor and survive by selling what they can, whenever they can — but there are days when they have nothing to eat.
Thanks to your donations, the 7 Blessings Project Foundation was able to pay for the family’s medical expenses, ensuring that Joyer received the urgent treatment he needed.
This moment is a vivid example of the harsh realities faced by families in our community, and of the compassion and urgency that guide our work. Because of the quick actions of Dr. Chico — and the generosity of those who support our mission — Joyer received life-saving care.
Your ongoing support makes stories like this possible. Together, we can respond in moments of crisis, provide ongoing support, and bring hope to families who need it most.
